The invention relates to a method and toll system (SYS) for electronically charging tolls by means of a position determination system (PES) which determines the actual position-co-ordinates (OKO) of a vehicle. According to said invention, at least one characteristic signature (SIG) of the route taken by the vehicle (FAR) is calculated with the aid of the position-co-ordinates (OKO) of the vehicle (FAR), according to said signature (SIG) it is determined whether the route taken (STR) is a toll route or not. If the route taken (STR) is a toll route, user authorisation verification occurs as to whether the vehicle (FAR) is authorised to use the toll route (STR).
