A two-part buckle for interconnecting two strap portions F of a safety belt comprises a flat plate E connectable to one strap portion and a second part having a base B with means at one end for connecting another strap portion and a lever D pivoted to the base with two latching projections, 34 at one end for engaging the plate E and having a push button 37 at the opposite end of the lever by which the latching projections S may be rocked to disengage it from the plate E, spring means 47 normally urging the lever into the latching position. The base B has an opening 14 for the adjusting end of the webbing F which passes a round or knurled bar 15 sliding in slots 17 so that under tension the webbing is clamped between the bar 15 and a stop flange 20. The lever assemblage D has a top wall 30 with side flanges apertured to receive a hinge pin 33 which extends into openings 34 in the side of the base casing. The flat plate E has an opening 80 for securing the webbing thereto and a reduced forward end with two openings 83 spaced to conform with the spacing of the legs 34. As the plate is inserted, it cams against the edges 53 of the lever to lift it until the projections 34 engage in the openings 83. A ramp 21 is provided in the base to raise the plate to an inclined position to better secure the plate upon the latching projections. |
