ELECTRONIC MONEY SYSTEM

An electronic money system for network type and IC card type electronic money which prevents impossibility of collecting money for shopping by member stores and enables a user to do shopping via a network. A user terminal (2−1) accesses a member store terminal (4−1) via the Internet (1) and purchases a commodity. The member store terminal (4−1) inquires of a clearance apparatus (7) the electronic money balance stored in a database (25) of a user e−Wallet (24) of the user terminal (2−1). When the balance is greater than the shopping price, the clearance apparatus (7) subtracts the shopping price from the balance to update the balance. When the balance is smaller than the shopping price, a creditor account according to the user credit level is added to the balance and if the resultant total is greater than the shopping price, a transaction is performed.
