CONTROLLING A PRINTING SYSTEM USING THE PRINT QUEUE

A method is disclosed for managing a printing system that comprises a print queue of print jobs for a printer. Such print jobs are created by specifying for each print job print data and a set of processing parameters and are then put into the print queue. In particular, the method specifies a so-called "acting object", that within the print queue behaves as a separate job, and in said processing step is operative for specifying one or more system commands, without further specifying a actual print job. When an acting object reaches the top of the print queue, its system command is executed. Examples of such system commands are an interruption of the print queue processing or a change of default printing and/or printer parameters.
