Measuring method for a road surface using a laser pulse scanning system mounted on a motor vehicle, in which the actual scanner position is continuously determined to improve accuracy of surface measurements

Method wherein a vehicle (2) is driven in a given direction and a scanner (4) is used to transmit laser pulses towards the road surface (1) with a pendulum type movement with given angle steps. From the received reflected signal the time of flight of the laser pulses is calculated and correlated with the angle between a topographical fixed line and the corresponding laser beam pulse. The position of the scanner is measured in three spatial axes and the road surface signal is related to the continually varying actual position of the scanner and the start position of the scanner.
