A composition for heat-sealing polypropylene consists of (A) 5 to 25 wt. per cent non-volatile components consisting of:- 100 p.b.w. non-thermosetting phenol-formaldehyde novolac resin Up to 35 p.b.w. cyclized, halogenated or hydrohalogenated natural rubber Up to 54.78 p.b.w. vinyl chloride homopolymer or copolymer with vinyl alcohol or acetate, vinylidene chloride, styrene or acrylic and/or methacrylic esters Up to 17 p.b.w. plasticizer 0 to 335 p.b.w. non-thermosetting methylolated aminoplast resin 0 to 4 p.b.w. copolymer of 15 to 50 p.b.w. acrylonitrile with 85 to 50 p.b.w. butadiene 0 to 35 p.b.w. alkyd resin modified with vegetable and/or animal oils or fatty acids, aminoplasts and/or phenoplasts, rosin or natural resins 0.5 to 5 p.b.w. mineral solids of particle size 0.5 to 30 microns and optionally a minor amount of nitrocellulose; and (B) 95 to 75 wt. per cent volatile components consisting of:- 100 p.b.w. of a ketone 0 to 1.01 p.b.w. toluene 0 to 3.4 p.b.w. ester of a C1- 3 carboxylic acid and a C1- 5 aliphatic alcohol 0 to 0.18 p.b.w. ketoxime containing up to 5 carbon atoms 0 to 0.33 p.b.w. aliphatic alcohol containing up to 5 carbon atoms. Examples of such components are given, the plasticizers being phthalate and phosphate esters; the minerals silica, alumina, talc, asbestos and bentonite; and the aminoplasts arylsulphonamide-formaldehyde condensates. |
