The invention relates to a method and a device for metering a reductant. The device is provided with elements for supplying the reductant to a catalyst assembly via a line, in order to eliminate nitrogen oxide from the exhaust gases, in particular of a diesel engine. A metering element, in particular a metering valve, is located at the end of the line and elements for regulating the pressure of the reductant in the line are provided. Said elements for regulating the pressure (11, 12, 13; 11, 52, 70; 11, 13, 100) and/or the metering element (7; 120) can interact with a pressure detection element (12; 70; 100), which detects alterations in pressure on the outlet side of the metering element facing away from the line, in such a way that the alterations in pressure are incorporated into the pressure regulation and the metering operations.
