<p>A dry powder inhaler (25, 20, 100, 120, 150) includes systems to prevent or inhibit inadvertent delivery of multiple doses. A latching or locking actuation button (65, 36) prevents closing the inhaler (25, 20, 100, 120, 150) and release of a subsequent dose, until the first dose is inhaled. The actuation button (65, 36) is released, under control of an electronic controller (86) linked to a sensor (94, 96) which senses inhalation. A latching system (104) prevents closing the inhaler (25, 20, 100, 120, 150) until the latching system (104) is released, helping the patient to avoid inadvertently releasing multiple doses. The latching system (104) may include a lockout (125), also controlled by an electronic controller (86) or microprocessor, which prevents closing the inhaler (25, 20, 100, 120, 150) until the released dose is inhaled. A visual warning system (160) may also be provided to indicate a potential inadvertent multiple dose condition to the patient.</p> |
