A process for controlling an internal combustion engine determines the engine charge which tends to cause oscillations in the engine or drive train and reduces actual charge so that these disappear. The system includes a control circuit (200), a characteristic map (204) and an equalizer (208). An Independent claim is also included for a controlling device for the above process.
