PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise shock absorbing characteristics of a lightweight helmet without being accompanied by an increase in size of a shell. SOLUTION: This helmet is obtained by bringing a foamed gel 3 containing fine closed cells into close contact with a plurality of recessed parts 8 formed so as to be partitioned with ribs 7 of a liner 4 and holding the foamed gel 3 therein. The thickness t of the foamed gel 3 in a state thereof before housing the liner 4 holding the foamed gel 3 in the shell 2 is larger than the depth d of the respective recessed parts 8 and the foamed gel 3 is raised from the surface of the ribs 7 by t1 . The foamed gel 3 is pressed with the inner surface of the shell 2 by housing the liner 4 holding the foamed gel 3 in the shell 2. The crushed foamed gel 3 is protruded into gaps 12 formed between the ribs 7 and the shell 2 and held so as to come into close contact with the inner surface of the shell 2.
