摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new wet friction material having a high coefficient of friction and goodμ-V characteristics. SOLUTION: The friction material has a support plate 20 and a sliding layer 10 which is formed thereon and comes in frictional sliding contact with a material. The sliding layer 10 has a base material comprising an elastomer 11 and a filler 12 dispersed in the elastomer 11. The use of the elastomer 11 allows the sliding layer 10 to undergo elastic deformation to follow the shape of the surface of a material in frictional sliding contact therewith. As a result, the contact area increases so that the coefficient of friction of the sliding layer 10 can be raised. The dispersion of the filler 12 in the elastomer 11 makes the friction surface of the sliding layer 10 rough to an appropriate degree, so that the capability of holding an oil film by the friction surface can be improved. As a result, the coefficient of friction of the wet friction material 30 in a low speed region can be lowered, and theμ-V characteristics can be improved.
