PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulose ester film excellent in surface properties and free from contamination in the production step, with excellent productivity, and to provide an optical film, and a process for production thereof. SOLUTION: The cellulose ester film is characterized in that it has a solubility in a solvent comprising a 50:50 (mass%) methylene chloride : ethanol mixture at 20 deg.C of 10 g/100 ml or higher and contains an ultraviolet absorber which is solid at 20 deg.C.
