PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a melanin formation-inhibitory agent that has high melanin formation-inhibitory effect, excellent in stability and safety and provide a skin care preparation containing the same. SOLUTION: The melanin formation-inhibitory agent characteristically contains one or two or more kinds of macrocyclic ketone derivatives represented by formula (1) and/or one or two or more kinds of macrocyclic alcohol derivatives represented by formula (2) (wherein R is a 13-24C saturated or mono-through tri-unsaturated macrocyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon group which may be substituted with 1-3C lower alkyl groups).
