PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring method in which the thickness of a scale situated on the inner surface of a tube to be measured is measured by an ultrasonic testing system irrespective of its irregularities even when the scale is thick or thin. SOLUTION: Whether a prescribed peak value in the set waveform comparison part of a received echo by an ultrasonic probe 6 is within a prescribed range or not is discriminated. When the peak value is outside the prescribed range, ultrasonic waves are retransmitted into the tube 1 to be measured from the probe 6 while their frequency is changed. From among the waveform comparison part of the received echo by the probe 6 on the basis of retransmitted ultrasonic waves and the waveform comparison part of both received echoes by the probe 6 on the basis of their transmission and their retransmission, the waveform comparison part of the echo on one side in which the peak value is close to the prescribed range is detected as the reflected echo on a scale face 5, and the thickness of the scale 3 is measured on the basis of the relative time difference between the detected reflected echo and a reference echo.
