For building large metal structures including an internal supporting metal framework, in particular for erecting the hull and/or internal supporting assemblies of marine structures, a method is used, in which the technique of using cellular sandwich structures is applied. At least a substantial portion of the supporting elements of the large metal structure, in particular the support and border structures of its internal spaces (1a -1h, 2), are so built, that the cellular sandwich structure (3, 4, 5) to be produced therein is formed by joining together by welding at least two structural assemblies (3, 4; 5) of adjacent structures. In these assemblies, the cellular sandwich structure is only partly existent, but to such an extent, that a common cellular sandwich structure (3, 4, 5) between two structural assemblies is finally formed as a result of said joining operation.

|
