PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic polyamide film reduced in defect and suitable as a base film for magnetic recording medium, particularly for digital data storage being the memory use of a computer, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The aromatic polyamide film has a thickness T of 2-4μm and also has holes or through-holes with a depth of 0.9T or more and a maximum diameter of 0.1 mm or more accompanied by foreign matter different from a polyamide constituting the aromatic polyamide film in composition and the total presence density of the holes or through-holes is not more than 0.005/m<2> .
