PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an automobile accident induced by erroneous manipulation of a shit lever at start or during driving and improve manipulation performance of the shift lever by changing the layout of a reverse position R of the shift lever to a new layout in a shift lever structure of an automatic transmission car. SOLUTION: The new layout is adopted so that a shift lever 1 can be manipulated from a packing position P to a drive position D without passing a reverse position R. That is, the reverse position R of the shift lever 1 is arranged at the top, a neutral position N is arranged behind the reverse position R, and the parking position P is arranged on the left or right of the neutral position N. Moreover, behind the neutral position, the drive position D, a second position 2 and a low position L are arranged sequentially in a vertical row as before.
