PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high purity rare earth element-containing material particles for thermal spraying which can form a thermally sprayed coating film having high adhesion even if a high melting point rear earth metal element compound is used. SOLUTION: The rare earth element-containing compound particles for thermal spraying are polygonal, and have 3 to 100 μm average particle diameter, a dispersion index of <=0.5 and an aspect ratio of <=2.
