PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device using a point light source as illumination which can suppress deterioration of white purity with time by achieving the prolonged service life of the point light source and by suppressing variations in the deterioration with the passage of time caused by kinds of color, and to provide an electronic instrument provided with the same. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 10 is provided with a liquid crystal panel 20 which holds liquid crystal 27 between a pair of opposed substrates 21, 25 and has a plurality of pixels placed in a matrix shape, an illuminator 40 which has a point light source array in which the point light source 45 corresponding to each pixel of the liquid crystal display panel 20 is arrayed, and a beam-condensing unit 30 which is arranged between the liquid crystal panel 20 and the illuminator 40 and condenses light emitted from the point light source 45 on the corresponding pixel. The point light source 45 which constitutes the point light source array, has a different light-emitting area according to the kind of color. The electronic instrument is provided with the liquid crystal display device 10. |
