PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin escalator. SOLUTION: This escalator 1 is provided with an upper rotating guiding member 18 and a lower rotating guiding member 19 near to lower floor 3 side of an upper sprocket wheel 8 and in an end part side of the escalator 1 of a lower sprocket wheel 9. When a step 4 transfers from an upper circulating domain to a lower circulating domain or from the lower circulating domain to the upper circulating domain, the upper rotating guiding member 18 and the lower rotating guiding member 19 guide a second support roller 26 of the step 4. The step 4 and the chain 6 are rotatably connected by a connecting member 5. When the step 4 transfers from the upper circulating domain to the lower circulating domain or from the lower circulating domain to the upper circulating domain, a first support shaft 15 of the step 4 transfers in a location separate outward from the upper sprocket wheel 8 and the lower sprocket wheel 9 in such a manner of drawing a semicircular locus.
