PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of quickly detecting conveyance failure of a printing paper. SOLUTION: This printer 10 is provided with a recessed groove 22A on the outer circumferential surface of a platen roller 22, with a detection roller 36 provided in the recessed groove 22A. The detection roller 36 is contacted with a printing paper 20 so as to be rotated according to conveyance of the printing paper 20. In the detection roller 36, magnets 38, 38,... are provided by an equal interval in the circumferential direction such that the rotation speed of the detection roller 36 can be detected by a magnetic sensor 40. A control part 18 stops the rotation of the platen roller 22 according to the judgment that the conveyance failure is generated in the case the rotation speed of the detection roller 36 is reduced or it is stopped.
