PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head which is resistant to effects of a static electricity. SOLUTION: There are provided a head substrate 17 and a plurality of driving elements 12 for driving heating units. The head substrate 17 is provided with heating units 3 formed along an edge in a longitudinal direction of an insulating substrate 2, discrete electrodes 4 led out from the heating units 3, and common electrodes 16 connected in common to the heating units. A conductor island 18b is formed to a space of the insulating substrate present in a pattern of adjacent discrete electrodes between parts of the head substrate corresponding to driving elements of the plurality of driving elements 12. At least one of the conductor islands 18b is grounded. The static electricity invading the head substrate is eliminated by making the conductor island a ground potential.
