A damping weight is fitted on or in the end (5) of the handle (3) of a tennis, squash or racquet ball racquet (1) so that it can move elastically from the handle axis (4). The damping weight comprises 0.6 to 3.5% of the weight of the strung racquet and is fixed in place for at least uniaxial deflection at a resonant frequency of 100 - 300 Hz. Preferably the weight is located in an elastic support.
