PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive waveguide type optical multiplexer. SOLUTION: In the optical multiplexer used for wavelength multiplex communication, the optical multiplexer to multiplex wavelength multiplexed light so that the polarized wave states of adjacent wavelengths intersect perpendicularly consists of AWGs 122, 123 and a polarized wave compositing circuit 124 on a PLC. The inexpensive multiplexer is obtained, because the PLC has good polarized wave maintaining characteristics and the number of connections with polarization maintaining fibers can be reduced compared with a prior art.
