PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform simultaneous cut at two places with high accuracy without damaging conveying rollers. SOLUTION: A tip detector 7c is arranged on the front cutting truck 8 of two cutting trucks 7, 8 which are arranged above the conveying rollers R and a measuring apparatus 8c and a material detector 8d on the rear cutting truck 8. On the basis of cutting information and dimensional information which are preliminarily fed, cutting torches 7a, 8a are situated between the conveying rollers R and, when a conveyed long billet 2 is detected with the rear cutting truck 8 which is positioned so as to become the cutting length and stood by, the measuring apparatus 8c is stood by and simultaneously the conveying speed of the long billet 2 is decelerated. After that, measurement is started when the tip face of the long billet 2 is detected with the front cutting truck 7, the position of the long billet 2 is controlled with the conveying rollers R so that the front cutting truck 7 comes to a prescribed cutting position and the billet is cut.
