摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate a passage of light through a polarizer which reaches the polarizer attached to a liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: The crest 13a and the trough 13b of a prism array 13 formed on the surface of the opposite side of the light guide plate of a light guide rod 12 which has a light emitting diode 11 to be attached to both ends are inclined by about 45 degrees clockwise to a Z direction on an XZ surface when viewed from the opposite side of the light guide plate, and the light emitted from the light guide plate side of a light source device 10 becomes elliptic polarized light which has a long axis inclined counterclockwise from the Z direction toward the end surface 21 of the incident side of the light guide plate. Light which is totally reflected by the inner surface of the prism array 23 of the light guide plate and turns to the liquid crystal display element 30 from a second surface 24 is elliptic polarized light which has a long axis inclined counterclockwise from a Y direction when viewed from above, and the direction of this long axis coincides with the direction of the transmission axis P of a polarizing plate 40. The light easily passes through the polarizing plate, and the liquid crystal display element 30 is brightly irradiated with the light.
