In a card reader, of the type described in Specification 1,014,900 in which a drawer carrying a punched card is moved relatively to a set of contact springs, the drawer is moved by rotation of shaft 54 in response to axial movement of shaft 48, linkage 50, 52 being such that the mechanical advantage of the system increases as the drawer is inserted by axial movement of shaft 48, and during the terminal portion of the working stroke of shaft 48, shaft 54 is rotated slightly in the reverse direction to bring about a wiping action between the contact springs and the contact elements on the drawer. |
