PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for preventing detachment of a hoist cable of an elevator capable of easily winding/suspending a hoist cable on a drive sheave and adjusting and confirming the gap between the hoist cable and a hoist cable presser part even if there isn't sufficient work space between a hoisting electric motor with the hoist cable presser part and the drive sheave and the four surrounding wall surfaces, etc. SOLUTION: The device is for preventing the hoist cable 5, wound/suspended on the drive sheave 3 connected to the hoisting electric motor 1, with one end connected to a cab 6 and the other end connected to a balance weight 7, from being detached from a wound/suspended part of the drive sheave 3. The device has an arm 91, disposed near the drive sheave 3 with one end supported rotatably and the other end supported movably in a prescribed range, and the hoist cable presser part 9 disposed in the middle of the arm 91 with a prescribed gap between the hoist presser part and the hoist cable 5.
