PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for more safely producing copper ultrafine grains having high purity and a small grain size without using hydrazine and a hydrazine compound, and copper ultrafine grains produced thereby. SOLUTION: Acid is added to a solution containing copper (I)-ammine complex ions to reduce its pH, and copper (I) ions (Cu<1+> ) are subjected to disproportionation decomposition reaction into copper (II) ions (Cu<2+> ) and metallic copper (Cu), so that the metallic copper is precipitated in the shape of ultrafine grains to produce the copper ultrafine grains.
