PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hardness tester equipped with a sample moving means having extremely little possibility of exerting an influence on measurement even when loading the heavy weight. SOLUTION: This hardness tester 1 for measuring the hardness of a sample based on formation of an impression on the sample surface by an indenter 7 is equipped with a sample moving stand 101 for loading the sample on its upper surface part, having a smooth lower surface part 101a, a sample stand base 102 having a smooth upper surface part 102a in surface contact with the lower surface part of the sample moving stand, and a moving means 106 for sliding and moving the sample moving stand on the upper surface part of the sample stand base.
