PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that, in a rotational-position detector using an encoder, an error signal is generated due to the failure of the encoder or due to the influence of a noise because the encoder is not fail-safe, that a robot generates a malfunction, and that the robot is operated in an unexpected place when the encoder generates a dislocation. SOLUTION: The rotational-position detector for the robot is provided with many magnetometric sensors 5 which are arranged along the swiveling route of the robot, resistors R1 to R72 which are connected respectively in series with the magnetometric sensors, a magnet 2 which is moved together with the swiveling operation of the robot and which sets the magnetometric sensors sequentially to an ON state, and a detection circuit which detects the rotation angle of the robot on the basis of a change in a resistance value when the mangetometric sensors are set to the ON state due to the movement of the magnet.
