PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a specular grain oriented silicon steel sheet which has satisfactory magnetic properties without requiring decarburizing annealing. SOLUTION: A slab containing, by mass, <=0.005% C, 2.5 to 4.5% Si, 0.020 to 0.040% acid soluble Al, 0.0030 to 0.010% N, 0.003%<=(S+0.405Se)<=0.014% and 0.05 to 0.14% Mn is heated to a temperature range of <1,280 deg.C, and is subjected to hot rolling. The steel sheet is subjected to hot rolled sheet annealing or is not subjected to the same, and is subjected to final cold rolling at a draft of >=85% into a final sheet thickness. The steel sheet is subjected to primary recrystallization annealing without performing decarburization. A separation agent for annealing essentially consisting of a component which does not react with SiO2 is then applied thereto, and the steel sheet is subjected to primary recrystallization finish annealing. In this production method, the starting temperature of finish rolling in the hot rolling is controlled to <975 deg.C, and the draft R2 in a final stand in the finish rolling and the draft R1 in a stand before the final stand by one are controlled to satisfy 0.1<;R2 in the case of 0.3<=R1, and 0.1<;R1 in the case of 0.3<=R2. |
