PURPOSE: An engine control method of an automatic transmission vehicle is provided to control engine torque reduction rate by comparing duty level degree of a transmission control unit in an engine control unit if operation from N-stage to D-stage according to operation of a change lever is performed. CONSTITUTION: An engine control method of an automatic transmission vehicle comprises steps of deciding engine starting finish state if the engine of a vehicle is started(S100,S110); deciding traveling condition satisfaction state of the vehicle(S120); and comparing the input engine output torque reduction demand signal and the predetermined reference value(S130,S140) and performing reduction control of the engine output torque(S150). Therefore, temporary stop state of the engine, caused by operation of the change lever by the driver when the vehicle starts, is prevented.
