PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To vertically and laterally replace clothes even if dewatering is not complete so that the clothes can be efficiently and uniformly dried in depending of the quantity and quality of the washes in a washing and drying machine having a process of blowing hot air into an inner tub to dry the clothes. SOLUTION: The inner bin 4 having a rotating central shaft substantially in the vertical direction is rotatably supported in an outer tub 3 suspended in a casing 1, a rotary blade 5 is rotatably provided at the inner bottom of the inner tub 4, circulating air heated by a heater 13 is blown into the inner tub 4 by a drying blower 12, and a drying process is controlled by a control means. The control means has two processes different in time proportion of a tub rotating mode of drying while rotating the inner tub 4 and a rotary blade rotating mode of drying while rotating the rotary blade 5, heightens the time proportion of the rotary blade rotating mode with the advance of drying, and the water content of clothes at the initial stage of drying is determined according to a temperature rise curve of circulating air during the preheat drying period detected by a temperature detecting means 40 to vary the time of each process.
