PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for treating wet refuse, in which the inconvenience caused by the condensation of the oil content is avoided. SOLUTION: The wet refuse treating method is carried out by heating wet refuse (2) in a treating tank (4), making the steam (43) generated from the wet refuse pass through a condensing means (a condenser 44) and returning the cooled steam to the tank (4). The degree to be cooled by the condensing means is controlled according to the difference between the inlet temperature and the outlet temperature of the steam (43) in the condensing means so that the oil and fat content to be condensed and solidified by the condensing means can be dissolved, fluidized and removed. As a result, the inconvenience caused by the condensation and residence of the oil and fat content can be avoided.
