PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition having excellent antimicrobial properties, freshness keeping properties, and high safety. SOLUTION: A solvent is added to acetyl cellulose or nitro cellulose to prepare the solution. Then, a mixture of sucrose fatty acid ester, glycerol fatty acid ester and malic acid to prepare another composition. These two kinds of compositions are mixed to prepare the objective composition. Plastic sheets or films, paper and aluminum foil are coated with the mixed composition on their surfaces to form packaging materials. Vessels are formed from the packing material and food materials, for example, fruits, vegetables, meat, fish meat and the like are enclosed whereby excellent microbicidal effects and freshness retention are developed. Cut pieces of the packing material may be enclosed together with the food products in the generally tighte-sealed products.
