1323266 Identity cards INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS Ltd 26 March 1971 8234/71 Heading B6A A badge in the form of a permanent storage device comprises a flexible printed circuit board 10, Fig. 1, enclosed between bonded plastics, opaque layers 11, 12 which may have different dielectric properties, the board having a plurality of small conductive areas 13, Fig. 2, connected by narrow conductive parts 14 to a common, central conductive area 15, some of the parts 14 being selectively removed such that when a reader, which has a corresponding number of areas 13 connected to individual terminals (not shown), is placed over the board and the areas 13 of the reader are energized successively a capacitive intercoupling action is obtained. The areas 13 of the board 10 may be subdivided, e.g. into three groups of seven bits so that three words can be "inscribed" into the board. To position the board correctly in the reader the board is provided with a verifying area 13<SP>1</SP> which is connected permanently to the central conductive area 15 by a narrow part 14<SP>1</SP>, the reader starting its operation only when a verifying signal is obtained from the coupled area 13<SP>1</SP>. |
