PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll and a machine using the roll capable of smoothly bending and forming a metal plate as well as preventing damages to a roller surface. SOLUTION: A roller 2 of the roll is held freely rotatably to a holder 4 in the arrow guiding Ra direction or Rb direction by a rotating shaft 3. The holder 4 is fixed to a branch column 5 with a bolt 6 for angle adjustment. The rotating surface 2a of the roller 2 is shaped arcuate and the roller 2 is shaped substantially into a drum in a section view. The bolt 6 for angle adjustment is loosened and the holder 4 is rotated in the arrow guiding Sa direction or Sb direction, and the rotating surface 2a of the roller 2 is abutted at an appropriate angle to the edge E of a bent steel plate 21. The branch column 5 is supported freely lifting and lowering and the roller 2 is disposed at the most suitable position according to the height of the transfer line of the steel plate 21.
