PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inert gas feeding method and a device therefor capable of lessening the consumption amount of an inert gas used for preventing the oxidation of a molten light metal material and the ignition and combustion of a fine particle in a hopper, and reducing the cost of a molding, in a light alloy injection molding machine. SOLUTION: The temperature area of a cylinder is previously divided into steps, and the opening degree of a proportional flow rate adjusting device 18 for variably controlling the feeding amount of the inert gas is set based on the steps, then by comparing the actually measured temperature measured by a temperature sensor 16 appended to a cylinder 1 and the set temperature of the temperature area, the opening degree of the proportional flow rate adjusting device 18 is variably controlled to control the feeding amount of the inert gas to the hopper 6 and a nozzle 9 provided on the tip part of a cylinder 1.
