PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cartridge for purification of city water in which the time of exchange because of the use life of the cartridge can be properly judged, and therefore, cartridges can be exchanged in a proper period. SOLUTION: End caps 52, 54 are attached to the ends in the axial direction of a cylindrical cartridge 42 to purify city water. The whole caps are made as light-transmitting so that contamination on the end faces of the layers of a ceramic tube 44, diatomaceous earth 46, activated carbon 48 and nonwoven fabric 50 inside in the axial direction of the cartridge can be visually observed through the end caps 52, 54.
