PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen the false detection of a restraining breakout for previously detecting the restraining breakout at the lower end part of a mold by measuring the temperature with a temperature detector raw disposed in the vertical direction of a mold side wall in continuous casting facilities. SOLUTION: From the calculated casting length H0 , the upper and lower limit valuesβ1 ,β2 of the calculated casting length are calculated and tabled, and the temperature scanning is conducted in casting a continuous casting material. Then by making a temperature detector, having conducted the predetermined temperature change, an objective temperature detector, whether the temperature propagation to a temperature detector adjacent to the objective temperature detector in the horizontal direction is effected or not is determined, and when determined that the temperature propagation is effected, the casting length Hr at the time point of detection of the temperature propagation and theβ1 ,β2 are compared to determine the occurrence of the restraining breakout.
