Bags or tubular wrappers are closed by gathering the neck and applying a sealing strip, the strip also being fastened about a strip of labelling material. The labelling material 5 is advanced under control of photo-electric means 8 to rest on the bag neck in the region of gathering jaws 10, 11, the latter including closure strip 18, cutters 16, 17. The jaw 10 moves towards the jaw 11 and folders 14, 15 bend the strip 18 about the gathered neck and the label. A twister device 19, 20 grips the strip ends and rotates to complete the closure. The apparatus may include a printing device and may form closures on bags, originally in continuous web form with the open mouth of each bag connected to the closed base of that following it, the bags being opened by air, filled, separated and then sealed as above. |
