PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eco-friendly washing machine capable of saving rinsing water by supplying a suitable quantity of detergent regardless of the type of a surface active agent contained in the detergent. SOLUTION: An interfacial tension measuring part 10 is formed in a part of a water tank 1 storing washing water in a washing tub 2. Air is fed into an interfacial tension detecting pipe 11 inserted in the washing water in the interfacial tension measuring part 10 from an air pump 12 to thereby generate bubbles from a lower end opening part of the detecting pipe 11. The interfacial tension of washing water is measured by the maximum bubble pressure method for measuring the pressure in the detecting pipe 11 when the bubbles grow semi-spherically, and the concentration of detergent is detected from the interfacial tension.
