Method for detecting and quantifying grain eating insects present in grain stocks by recording the noise originating from them and analyzing the noise for taxonomic identification and quantification of insect numbers

Method has the following steps: recording of actual noise in stock; elimination of interference noise; determination of an energy curve with possible windows corresponding to energy peaks; and determination of average frequency and the spectral width of said windows. The width and average frequency of each window is compared with stored data in order to carry out taxonomic identification and lastly frequency and energy is compared with stored data to determine a count for the number of a type of insect present. The invention also relates to a corresponding device for implementing the inventive method with an array of recording means for recording the audible and infra-audible noise originating from insects in the grain.
