PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data reproducing device which easily confirms whether desired music or sound information can be played or not when a memory is connected. SOLUTION: An attachable and detachable memory card 23 is loaded to the data reproducing device by a two-way bus transceiver IC 22, this loading of the memory card 23 is detected by a CPU 20. When the memory card 3 is loaded, the compression system of compressed data recorded in the memory card 23 is detected. The CPU 20 checks whether a decoding program corresponding to the detected compression system is recorded in the memory card 23 or not. When the decoding program is not detected as a result, a warning is given by a display part 26 and a speaker 15.
