LIGHT MULTIPLYING EQUIPMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light multiplying equipment which operates stably with high-reliability. SOLUTION: An input light pulse train 10 of 10 Gb/s is made incident on a birefringent medium 12 having an amount of polarization mode dispersion(PMD) of 50 ps at a tilt of 45 degrees. The birefringent medium 12 divides the first optical pulse 14 of the input light pulse train 10 into two optical pulses 14a and 14b of a polarized wave which has a time difference of 50 ps and intersects perpendicularly with each other, and divides a second optical pulse 16 into two optical pulses 16a and 16b of the polarized wave which has the time difference of 50 ps and intersects perpendicularly with each other. The polarizer 18 is placed at the output side of the birefringent medium 12 in a polarization direction tilted at 45 degrees to two directions of the cross polarization of the output light from the birefringent medium 12.
