The head rest, made with a supporting surface that can be adjusted to move it forward or back, has an inner curved flexible e.g. plastic plate (10) with an actuating mechanism (9) connecting its upper (17) and lower (14) sections, enabling them to be moved towards or away from one another to vary the plate's curvature. The actuating mechanism consists of a knurled knob (12) turning a threaded rod (13) engaging with a threaded projection (16) on the lower section of the plate. The upper section of the plate is connected to the crosspiece of the head rest's inverted U-shaped frame which has two vertical sides sliding in the seat back to adjust its height.
