PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp of which lighting can be stabilized in a short period of time, versatility with ultraviolet light source is improved by eliminating variation of emission characteristics of ultraviolet ray and, which is favorable from the viewpoint of energy-saving and global environment protection with reduced electric power consumption. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp is made of a discharge tube with carbon monoxide and/or gas containing carbon monoxide enclosed. The discharge lamp utilizes discharge emission emitted when carbon monoxide and/or gas containing carbon monoxide are discharged, especially, one of ultraviolet region.
