The drum opening is sealed with a metal lid (3) having a downwards-oriented collar (23) designed to extend around the rim (6) of the drum. The rim is formed by an extension of the drum mantle wall (5), which is bent to form a rounded crest (9) and an outer section (11) extending at a given angle in a downwards direction from the crest, towards the outside of the mantle wall. The collar slopes inwards from its outer peripheral edge to contact the outer edge section of the rim. The collar is sealed with an edge closure (29) so that the outer edge section of the rim forms a seamless transition with a combined support and protective flange (14). The latter extends outwards in a radial direction from the outside of the mantle wall and has a support surface (15) facing the edge closure of the collar.
