[Also in Division F4] A reciprocating refrigerant compressor 18 has a shaft 26 driven by an electric motor 22 and is resiliently mounted within an hermetically sealed housing 14 on three coiled compression springs 64 having ends provided with closely wound turns which surround posts 62, 58 formed, respectively, on the housing 14 and on the compressor block 50. The housing 14 is filled to a level 80 with lubricant which enters an aperture 94 in a thrust plate 90 to pass into three longitudinal bores in the shaft 26. One of the bores is coaxial with the shaft axis and has a vent which allows refrigerant entrained in the lubricant to return to the casing housing. The other two bores are intersected by radial bores which deliver lubricant to the journal bearings 84, 86 and to a groove 104 in an eccentric 34 which reciprocates the compressor piston 28. Gas from an evaporator 48 is admitted to the housing through an inlet 134 where it cools the motor 22 and enters a muffler 36 through a pipe 136 before being compressed and discharged to a muffler 38, Fig. 6 (not shown) having an outlet pipe 128 connected to a condenser 44 having part thereof disposed in the lubricant in the housing.
